Want Pristine Water and Splendid Mountains for your Maternity Photoshoot?

Mom-to-be in front of the setting sun at her maternity photoshoot

I always call the combination of water and mountains golden for a maternity photoshoot. It’s easy to find photoshoot locations with mountains in Colorado. It’s easy to find photoshoot locations with water in Colorado. But it can be more difficult to find a location with both. They exist though, if you know where to look. And, fortunately for you, I do know where to look.

I love this location for a few reasons. First, it has the golden combination of water and mountains. Second, it’s easily accessible. Third, it produces pretty amazing sunsets.

Why This Location Shines for Maternity Photography

Water and Mountains

As I said above, finding a location with both water and mountains can be difficult. It makes sense why these two things can be hard to find together. Mountains have slopes. Water doesn’t collect on slopes. But, fortunately for us, there are locations where mountains are in the background with water near us. This location boasts a series of lakes. I have found that the one nearest the parking lot is actually the best for sunsets and views of Longs Peak. There are cottonwood trees in the far background that create a beautiful backdrop with the mountains. The water is also surrounded by wetlands, which also create great texture and another layer to the background.

Easily Accessible

It’s about a five minute walk from the parking lot to the farthest photo location we visit during your session. The entire walk is a flat walkway with pea gravel. We barely leave the walkway to get these photos. So every photo spot at this location is very accessible.

Amazing Sunsets

Because of it’s wide spread views, sunsets look amazing here. The entire horizon is filled with just mountains and trees in the distance. So we have a huge amount of sprawling Colorado skies to capture that beautiful sunset colors and golden beauty as the backdrop to your maternity photo session. Even on cloudy days, the presence of mountains make this an epic backdrop. You really can’t go wrong with this location, as there are so many amazing features that the photos will be beautiful regardless of the time of year or the weather. The foliage just turns into amazing texture during the colder months and then lushness during the warmer months.
