Hawaii Born and Raised. Female Indiana Jones. Lover of Doctor Who.
Aloha. I’m Sara (she/her/hers), a Colorado maternity, baby, and family photographer that loves to work with moms and moms-to-be who want images that showcase their elegance and beauty in front of the majestic Coloradan wilderness we all love. I am based in Longmont and photograph throughout Colorado.
Do you like working with people you like? So do I! Here’s some random facts about me to see whether we’d have fun creating together:
I’m originally from the Big Island of Hawaii, but have called Colorado home since 2009. Since I married an Iowan that also relocated here, here is where I’ll stay!
If I’m daydreaming, it usually means I’m planning my next trip to an archaeological site. I can’t be the only one that has always wanted to be the female version of Indiana Jones? Right?
I am an avid gardener, permaculturalist, and food canner. I am so passionate about it, I volunteer as a Weld County Master Gardener in my free time.
The top of my guest list for a fantasy dinner party would be Amy Farrah Fowler, Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, and Clara Oswald. Can you tell I’ve binge watched the Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who?
I’m a world-class kiddo wrangler and deeply devoted to my own kiddos, both the human one and the fur baby.
Efficiency is my game and organization is my superpower. Elfa anyone? The funny thing is that I love to organize, but I’m not the cleanest in my house by a long shot. My theory is that I suffer from magical realism a bit. If I organize it well enough, it means I’ll pick it up. 😂
Check out photos of me and my family below. Please excuse the horrible phone resolution from years past.

Why Maternity, Newborn, and Family Photography Amidst the Colorado Wilderness?
My photography has always taken place in epic places, why should my maternity, newborn and family photography be any different?
I started my photography career in my home state of Hawaii. There I got to capture families surrounded by jaw-dropping backdrops. I continued my photography at archaeological sites throughout the world. When I returned to people photography after living in Colorado for nearly a decade, I was surprised to find how photography was captured here. I noticed that elopement and wedding photographers were capturing these epic images of couples in the mountains, showing off the beauty of the couple and the backdrop. When I looked at maternity, newborn, and family photography, I saw nothing of the sort. I couldn’t understand why.
The portrait photography market seemed to have this specific idea of what moms want. Why is it that just because we became moms we wouldn’t want photography that captured our adventurous spirit?
Why wouldn’t we want photography that passed our love for travel and experiences or the outdoors, environment, or wilderness to our children? I didn’t become a different person when I became a mom. Things changed for sure and certain aspects of my personality became enhanced. But my love for travel, seeing and experiencing all the amazing things this world has to offer, and my love for untamed wilderness was as steadfast as ever. In fact, it was enhanced when my daughter was born. I now wanted to preserve this world for my child and be the one that introduced her to all the amazing things that surround us, so that she would grow to appreciate these amazing things that many take for granted.
I set out to create a new genre of photography missing in the Colorado market, adventure maternity, newborn, and family photography. I did it in a way that made it accessible to families of all types and abilities. Because an adventurous spirit shouldn’t mean that you have to be willing to climb fourteeners. I don’t. It can just mean willing to look at the world around us and taking a moment every now and then to appreciate it.
I spent more hours than I can count finding locations that evoked the awe of nature, but was accessible mostly by car. Because portraits are stressful enough on families, we don’t need to add a long hike onto it. I set out a way for moms to honor who they are, even as they transition into a new version of themselves, mom.
Are you the type of mom-to-be/mom who…
is down-to-earth and wants to feel beautiful in photos of yourself and your family?
wants to celebrate and honor your journey and family story?
wants someone that isn’t going to cower when your toddler throws a tantrum?
wants someone that will guide you every step of the way and not expect you to know how this photography thing goes?
wants to celebrate who you truly are as a family in a genuine way?
Then you’re in the right place!
