Newborn and Baby Photography FAQs

Booking Your Newborn Session

  • The first step is to reach out via my contact page. I’ll see if I’m available and send you more information to review. If you’re interested in moving forward, we’ll have a virtual chat so that I can answer any questions you may have and see if we’re the right fit for each other.

  • The first step is reaching out. You can do so here. If you like what you learn, then we have a virtual chat to get to know each other a bit more and see if we’re the right fit for each other.

When you’ve booked, we’ll schedule a design meeting that occurs about a month before your session. During that meeting, we’ll figure out the location for your session, what you and everyone in your party will wear, and how to prepare for your session.

The next time we meet will be at your session, where we’ll have fun and get great images.

A couple weeks after your session, I’ll send you a slideshow of all the resulting images from your session. At that point you’ll decide what digital image collection you’d like to invest in. Then you’ll gain access to your online gallery and have time to download image files and purchase print products, if you choose to do so.

You can get more information about my process on the newborn experience page.

  • Nope! I’m happy to work with clients that just want a newborn session.

  • Ultimately it’s up to you. We can discuss the optimal time for you during your virtual chat. I do have some general guidance in regards to that though and you can find that information on my blog post on when it is best to schedule newborn photos.

  • I recommend booking as soon as possible, as the earlier you book the more availability I’ll have.  At minimum, I recommend booking while you’re still pregnant. It allows us to design your session before baby comes, so that you can just focus on baby after baby’s birth. You can find more information about that on my post that discusses newborn session timing.

  • Yes! I do have limitations though. We will not do a session, if the high is below freezing for the day. And baby will be bundled up for the entirety of the session, so I will not get images of any baby details that are covered by clothes. I take the safety of your baby very seriously, so we keep that all in mind when planning a session.

  • You can find starting prices for my sessions here. You’ll receive a full, detailed pricing list before our virtual chat. And I am happy to answer any further questions you may have during our virtual chat.

  • Yes. All clients choose a digital image file collection, which includes high-resolution digital image files with a personal print release. You decide which collection you’d like after you see the images from your session.

  • Yes. I work with only professional level printers and offer a series of fine art prints, albums, and announcement cards.

These are available for purchase after you have purchased a digital image file collection.

  • I do offer a discount for booking multiple sessions at the same time. I don’t offer extremely regimented baby plans though, because I find that most of my clients want something slightly different and I’m always happy to do what is best for your family. You can learn more about my maternity sessions here.

About Your Newborn Session

  • That is the exact reason why I have a collection of gowns for your use and we have design meeting. We’ll figure it all out, so you don’t have to worry about it.

  • My newborn sessions are lifestyle. This means that I do pose, but they are more natural poses than what you’ll typically see in studio newborn settings. I do get images of baby on their own, but it will only make up about 25% or less of the session. I focus instead on connection. Connection between you all as a family. This means that parents and siblings are also prominent in my newborn sessions. You can see my portfolio here.

  • Your newborn session will either take place in your home or at an outdoor location of your choice.

  • The session is for the whole family. Whoever that includes is up to you. It can be just parents and baby. Or parents, baby, and baby’s siblings. Or parents, baby, baby’s siblings, and grandparents. It’s completely up to you on who to include.

  • That is the exact reason we have a design meeting before your session. During that meeting we will discuss what the baby and the rest in your party will wear to the session, what to bring to the session/how to prepare your house for the session, and anything else you may need to know in order to prepare for your session.

  • Included in my deluxe session fee is a radius of 60 miles from my base in Frederick, CO. That includes Rocky Mountain National Park, all of Denver, Boulder, Broomfield, and Weld counties, most of Adams, Jefferson, and Arapahoe counties.

If you’d like a session outside of that radius, bring it up during your virtual chat and I’ll see if I can accommodate it.

  • Nope! Not at all. Working with primarily pregnant women and smaller children has led me to scout only for locations that require at most a 10 minute walk for the entire session. Although it looks like my sessions require a hike (that’s what I’m going for after all!), they don’t.

Legalities, Permits, and Equipment

  • Not all locations require permits. In fact, most of the locations I work at do not require them. If you do choose a location with a permit though, I take care of getting the permit for that location.

My studio covers permit fees for Rocky Mountain National Park, Larimer County, Jefferson County, and Boulder City. Most locations in Boulder County and Weld County do not require permits.

If you choose a location where the fees is not taken care of by my studio, I’ll take payment for the permit fee when you’ve settled on a location (usually during the design meeting) and I will take care of obtaining the permit.

  • Yes, I have liability insurance that is industry standard.  Yes, I am fully licensed.  I carry a Colorado business license and am in good standing with the state.  I also carry a business license for each city/county in which I operate in and requires one.  I am also licensed to collect sales tax.

  • Yes, I photograph with full frame, professional level, Nikon photography equipment.  I edit all photos using professional level Adobe software.
