Want Vibrant Wildflowers and a Stunning Sunset for your Longmont Maternity Photos?

Finding a maternity photography location near Longmont, Boulder, or Denver that has wildflowers and stunning sunsets can be difficult.  It’s even harder to find a location that has wildflowers from spring to fall.  But that location does exist.  And it’s gorgeous.

Not far out of Denver and even closer for people in Boulder and Longmont, this location can’t be beat with its golden hour light, rolling hills, and plethora of sunflowers.  The best part, the beautiful vistas are right next to the parking lot and extremely easy to access.

And there’s no mistaking that you’re in Colorado with the towering cliffs behind, showing off that iconic sandstone.  Or the rustic cabin that appears in the backdrop as though you’re well into the backcountry.

Where the Wildflowers Grow

The first time I photographed at this location, it was June.  There were rolling green hills for miles to see.  What I loved the most was the prairie wildflowers that would pop up in the photos.  Like the yellow prairie coneflower (Ratibida pinnata, in case you’re geeky like me), that adds a pop of yellow along the walkway.

Only a month later, I came back to fields of wild sunflowers.  What I love about our wild sunflowers is that they last longer than the annual type you find in agriculture.  They also are just the right touch to the Colorado countryside.  You don’t have to choose between a location that has sunflowers and also screams Colorado.

Why This Location Shines for Maternity Photography

Change the angle and the backdrop changes.  I love that this location has rolling hills, but also awesome rock faces.  It also has the cutest path that is just perfect for golden hour shots.  The perfect portrait locations are all within easy walking from the parking lot.  This is great on a hot day, but also if moving around has been a bit difficult as of late.

Why This Location Might be For You

I’d recommend this location for you if want any or all of the following:

  • The right combination of sunflowers and Colorado and the timing is right

  • A great combination of Colorado rocky features and beautiful greenery

  • Easy Accessibility is important

  • Can’t go to altitude

  • Love the look of the sunlight shining through wisps of wildflowers, green rolling hills, and trees

I don’t recommend this location if:

  • You have a deep seated fear of rattle snakes. Of course we’re very careful, but if the thought makes you shiver in fear we should probably avoid.

  • You aren’t comfortable with rocky trails

Quick Location Facts

  • Easy access to portrait locations, but a wheelchair will be difficult on the rocky trail. However, we could find comparable spots even closer to the parking lot.

  • No permit or entry fee needed

  • Bathrooms available for clothing changes

  • One hour from Denver, 30 minutes from Boulder, 20 minutes from downtown Longmont, one hour from Greeley, one hour from Fort Collins

  • Can be photographed close to sunset. Do suggest that we start 15 minutes earlier than other locations, since we are very close to the mountains.
